01

1.2
"Hirer" means the person who completes a booking and hires the trailer.
1.3
"Trailer" means the trailer and all equipment attached to or hired under the hire contract.
1.4
"Booking System" means the online self-serve booking platform accessible via CrocHire.com.au or the direct booking link provided in your confirmation email.
1.5
"Hire Period" means the period from the confirmed start time to the confirmed end time of the booking.
02
Self-Serve Operation

No staff on site. Here's how it works.

2.1
Croc Hire operates as a fully self-serve, staffed-free trailer hire service. There are no staff on site at any location. The Hirer is responsible for correctly locating, attaching, and returning the trailer using the instructions provided at booking.
2.2
All booking management, extensions, and hire-related actions are handled through the Booking System link provided in your confirmation email. Keep this link — you'll need it.
2.3
At or before the commencement of hire, the Hirer must inspect the trailer and confirm it is in a good and serviceable condition. Croc Hire reserves the right to exchange the hire item with an equivalent item at any time before or during the booking period.
03
Eligibility & Licence Requirements

Who can and can't hire from Croc Hire.

3.1
The Hirer must hold a valid Australian driver's licence that permits towing of the hired trailer. L-plate and P1 licence holders are not permitted to hire. P2 licence holders are permitted.
3.2
Both physical and digital licences (e.g. via the Service NSW app) are accepted for identity verification at the time of booking. The Hirer confirms they are the same person as named on the licence provided.
3.3
International licences are not accepted. An Australian licence is required.
3.4
The Hirer must be 18 years of age or older.
3.5
In the event of incorrect licence details being provided, the credit or debit card details provided by the Hirer constitute proof of hire.
04
Trailer Use & Load Limits

How the trailer must be used and weight limits that apply.

4.1
The Hirer shall use the trailer in a skilful and proper manner and shall not speed, overload it, or use it for any purpose other than its normal intended purpose.
4.2
The Hirer must not exceed 80km/h, or lower speed limits where applicable.
4.3
Maximum load ratings:
Trailer Max Load
Car Trailer / Caged Box Trailer 1,300kg (1.3 tonnes)
Cattle Trailer As specified in the Booking System at time of booking
Trailer dimensions advertised are approximate only. If in doubt, select the next size up.
4.4
At least 70% of the load weight must be distributed in the front half of the cargo space.
4.5
Trailers must not be towed by vehicles with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) greater than 4.5 tonnes.
4.6
The Aggregate Trailer Mass (trailer weight plus load) must not exceed the maximum towing capacity specified by your vehicle manufacturer. Check your owner's manual and towbar rating plate — the lower figure applies.
4.7
A 50mm diameter tow-ball is required for all hire trailers.
4.8
Safety chains and proper lights are required by Australian Transport Authority regulations. Compliance is the Hirer's responsibility.
4.9
The hire contract may not be transferred or assigned to any other party without prior written consent from the Owner.
05
Permitted & Prohibited Use

Where and how trailers can and can't be used.

5.1
Trailers may be used on sealed roads and on short unsealed access roads or driveways providing direct access to a private property (e.g. a gravel driveway). Extended use on unsealed roads, bush tracks, or fire trails is not permitted.
5.2
Under no circumstances are trailers to be taken onto the beach or submerged in salt water or any other water.
5.3
The Hirer must not:
  • Sell, offer for sale, assign, mortgage, pledge, or underlet the trailer or any interest therein.
  • Part with possession of the trailer.
  • Allow any lien to be created in respect of the trailer.
  • Allow repairs or costs to be incurred on the Owner's behalf without first obtaining written authority from the Owner.
06
Load Security & Safe Operation

Your responsibilities for securing loads and safe towing practice.

6.1
The Hirer must secure all property, goods, or stock so that loads cannot part from or leave the trailer during transit under any circumstances. Use suitable tie-down materials. The Hirer is responsible for the correct and safe connection of the trailer to the tow vehicle.
6.2
The coupling must be attached to the tow vehicle at all times when loading, whilst loaded, and during unloading. The jockey wheel is for raising and lowering only — not for manoeuvring the trailer.
6.3
A spare wheel is supplied with each trailer. The Hirer must carry the spare wheel, wheel brace, and jack at all times during the hire. The Hirer is responsible for all punctures — no refund or claim for tyres will be met without presenting the tyre to the Owner.
6.4
The Hirer agrees to insure their own property and towing vehicle against loss or damage prior to loading or towing. No claim for loss or damage to the Hirer's property or vehicle shall be made against the Owner.
6.5
Winch operation (Car Trailer):
  • Place a bag or rag on the cable between the winch and the item being winched.
  • Inflate vehicle tyres to recommended PSI before loading rolling stock.
  • Maximum winch load: 1,000kg SWL. Not designed for lifting.
  • Do not use the winch to secure loads or unload rolling stock under any circumstances.
  • Keep the ratchet engaged at all times under load.
  • Do not release cable to its full extent.
  • Keep the area behind the trailer clear for 20 metres and load on level ground.
  • If unsure — call 0477 957 051 before use. Do not use the winch if you cannot reach us.
6.6
Pre-departure checklist — check these before you drive off:
  • Safety chains correctly attached to the tow vehicle.
  • Coupling handle correctly engaged and locked down.
  • All lights working correctly. Drive with your lights on.
  • Spare wheel, wheel brace, and jack on board.
07
Pickup & Return

How to collect and return your trailer.

7.1
After booking you'll receive a confirmation email containing your trailer number, padlock access code, and site address. Keep this email — you'll need it to pick up and return the trailer.
7.2
Arrive at your nominated location within your booked time slot. Use the padlock code in your email to access your numbered trailer. Hook up and go. No staff attendance is required or available.
7.3
Return the trailer to the same location it was collected from before the hire period expires. Park in the designated area and complete the post-hire checklist (including photographs) via the Booking System link. Hire ends only upon completion of the post-hire checklist.
7.4
Should the Hirer fail to return the trailer to the designated return location, a standard trailer recovery fee of $2,100.00 will apply.
7.5
The trailer must be returned properly cleaned. Trailers returned in a dirty condition will be cleaned at the Hirer's expense.
7.6
⚠️ If the trailer is not at the site, has visible prior damage, or is in an unusable condition at the time of pickup — do not attempt to use it. Call 0477 957 051 or email hello@crochire.com.au immediately. Take photographs of the site and any damage before touching the trailer. The Owner will investigate and arrange either a replacement trailer (subject to availability) or a full refund. The Hirer must not commence use of a trailer they believe to be damaged or unsafe — doing so constitutes acceptance of its condition at the time of hire.
08
Hire Extensions & Late Returns

What to do if you need more time — and what happens if you're late.

8.1
To extend your hire, use the Booking System link in your confirmation email, subject to availability. If the extension option is unavailable, it means the trailer has already been booked by the next customer — you must return it on time.
8.2
If you cannot extend online and cannot get the trailer back in time, call 0477 957 051 immediately so the Owner can notify and arrange for the next customer. The sooner you call, the better.
8.3
Late returns where the trailer has been booked by a subsequent hirer will attract the following charges per 24-hour period (or part thereof) beyond the hire expiry time:
Trailer Rate per 24hrs Inconvenience Fee
Car Trailer $85.00 + $50.00
Caged Box Trailer $85.00 + $50.00
Cattle Trailer $150.00 + $50.00
8.4
Late returns not advised within 24 hours after hire expiry will be treated as an unreturned trailer. The Owner reserves the right to inform police and report the trailer as stolen.
8.5
There is no refund for early return of the hired trailer.
09
Damage, Accidents & Equipment Faults

What to do if something goes wrong — and what it'll cost.

9.1
🛑 If the trailer has a mechanical fault or is involved in an accident — STOP USE IMMEDIATELY. Call 0477 957 051 as soon as possible. Do not continue driving the trailer — further use may increase damage and increase your liability.
9.2
Send photographs of any damage or fault to the Owner as soon as possible after stopping.
9.3
The Hirer makes their own insurance arrangements and assumes all responsibility for loss, damage, or liability arising from the trailer while it is in the Hirer's care. The trailer is not insured by the Owner against theft or damage while outside the Owner's possession.
9.4
The Hirer accepts full liability for all repair or replacement costs in the event of loss, theft, or damage. Charges will be:
  • New retail replacement cost of the trailer or component; plus
  • Labour at a minimum of 3 hours or actual time taken, whichever is longer, at $110/hr; plus
  • Additional daily hire charges at $50.00 per 24-hour period from the end of the original hire period until the trailer is repaired and returned to service.
9.5
In the event of an accident, the Hirer is liable for all recovery costs including towing and storage fees from the date of the accident.
9.6
Should payment relating to clause 9.4 not be received within 7 days of the invoice due date, the Hirer agrees to a late fee of $50 per day for administrative costs.
10
CCTV & Camera Monitoring

All Croc Hire sites are monitored. Here's what that means for you.

10.1
All Croc Hire locations are monitored by CCTV cameras. By completing a booking and accessing a Croc Hire site, the Hirer consents to being recorded for the purposes of site security, trailer monitoring, and the investigation of damage, disputes, or loss.
10.2
CCTV footage may be retained and disclosed to police, insurers, or other relevant authorities in connection with any damage, theft, or legal matter arising from the hire.
10.3
The Owner may also use GPS or satellite tracking devices on hire equipment. The Hirer acknowledges that location data recorded during the hire may be used in connection with enforcement of these terms and conditions.
11
Cancellations & Refunds

How cancellations and refunds work.

11.1
Cancellations cannot be processed by the Hirer directly through the Booking System. To request a cancellation, the Hirer must contact the Owner by calling 0477 957 051 or emailing hello@crochire.com.au. The cancellation is not confirmed until the Owner acknowledges it in writing.
11.2
A full refund will be issued for cancellations made prior to the commencement of the hire period, provided the Hirer has not yet collected the trailer. No admin fee applies.
11.3
No refund is available for early return of a trailer once the hire period has commenced.
11.4
Any genuine equipment fault that renders the trailer unusable and is reported within 24 hours of the hire start time will be reviewed by the Owner. Where the fault is the Owner's responsibility, a proportionate refund or credit will be issued at the Owner's discretion.
12
Payment & Additional Charges

How charges work and what extras can apply.

12.1
The Hirer authorises all hire charges and additional charges to be debited to the credit or debit card provided at booking. If the card cannot be charged, payment via bank transfer to the Owner's nominated account is required. A fee of $50 per day applies for each day payment is not received.
12.2
All additional charges (including damage, late fees, recovery fees, and fines) will be automatically charged to the Hirer's card without further authority required from the Hirer.
12.3
Additional charges that may apply:
Charge Type Fee
Toll charges $35.00 admin fee + toll value
Traffic infringement fines $100.00 admin fee + fine value
Booking changes (time, date, location) $10.00 per change
Late payment (per day) $50.00 per day
Dirty trailer cleaning At cost
12.4
Traffic infringement charges apply regardless of who was in possession of the trailer when the fine was incurred and regardless of whether the Hirer intends to appeal or dispute the fine.
13
Limitation of Liability

The extent of the Owner's legal liability.

13.1
To the extent permitted by law, the Owner shall not be liable to the Hirer for any damages, claims, or losses arising directly or indirectly from the use, maintenance, transport, or operation of the trailer.
13.2
In the event of a trailer breakdown, the Hirer must arrange at their own expense to return the trailer to the Owner. The Owner is not responsible for any expenditure, damage, or loss (including consequential or economic loss) arising from any breakdown.
13.3
The Hirer indemnifies the Owner and its agents against all costs and expenses (including legal costs on a full indemnity basis and all debt collection costs) incurred in connection with enforcement of these terms or recovery of sums owed by the Hirer.
14
Privacy

How your personal information is handled.

14.1
Personal information collected at the time of booking (including name, licence details, and payment information) may be used and disclosed by the Owner for:
  • Administering and enforcing the hire agreement and these terms, including debt collection.
  • Promotion and marketing of goods or services by the Owner or its business partners.
  • Providing information to brokers and insurers in connection with any insurance claim or loss.
  • Disclosure to the Australian Transport Authority, police, or other government agencies in connection with any infringement or law enforcement action.
  • Review of CCTV footage in connection with damage, theft, or disputes as outlined in clause 10.
15
Long Term Hires

Additional conditions that apply to extended hire periods.

15.1
For long-term hires, it is the Hirer's responsibility to keep the trailer in a roadworthy condition. Any identified faults must be reported by calling 0477 957 051 prior to further use.
15.2
Croc Hire reserves the right to exchange the hire item with an equivalent item at any time during a long-term hire period.
15.3
In the event of a declined card payment, attempts will be made every 24 hours to process the outstanding amount. If payment is not received and contact cannot be made, the trailer may be reported to police as stolen after 24 hours.
16
Occupational Health & Safety

Your safety obligations as a hirer.

16.1
By completing a booking, the Hirer certifies that they are competent in:
  • Correctly connecting and disconnecting the trailer coupling hitch.
  • Correctly applying safety chain connections.
  • Connecting trailer light plugs and conducting light checks before and after use.
  • Ensuring safe load distribution on and off the trailer.
  • Securing loads during loading, unloading, when parked, and under tow.
  • Correctly securing the jockey wheel when under tow and when stationary.
  • Adhering to the maximum load rating of the trailer.
  • Operating the trailer with correctly inflated tyres.
  • Understanding the trailer's braking system where applicable.
16.2
If the Hirer is not confident in any of the above, they should not proceed with the hire and should seek guidance from a qualified towing trainer or the relevant Transport Authority before booking.
16.3
Every effort is made to ensure hire trailers are in roadworthy condition. Do not use the trailer if there are any doubts about its roadworthiness. Report any concerns immediately by calling 0477 957 051.
